The stunning house was built by B P Fernando Weerawarnakurukulasooriya (1868 – 1938), a well-known businessman from the area. He was engaged in letting of Commercial Property and also in trading Copra among other things. Built in 1914 this intricately detailed house is named “Winnie Villa” as visible on the front wall engravings. Fernando had an only daughter named Vinitia born in 1916 two years after the house is said to have been built, but it isn’t clear whether she was named after the house or the house was named after her birth.
