Objectives

All functions of the General Body and the Council are governed by the Constitution of ICOMOS Sri Lanka. They are abided by and operate in accordance with the ICOMOS Statutes, Rules of Procedure, and Ethical Principles to the extent that the Laws of Sri Lanka permits and are recognized.

ICOMOS Sri Lanka promotes cultural heritage preservation and management as defined by ICOMOS International in its tangible and intangible aspects as appropriate and relevant to SRI LANKA as well as those defined in national policies, legislation, guidelines, and standards. It implements the decisions of the General Assembly and the ICOMOS General Program and cooperates with the International Scientific Committees of ICOMOS as appropriate and relevant.

It also promotes the conservation and management of the living traditions and traditional practices associated with Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage. Furthermore, ICOMOS Sri Lanka promotes multi-disciplinary and people-centered approaches to conservation and management of cultural heritage and programs linking nature and culture.
